According to the European Commission’s report ‘Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2021’, the Basque Country ranks among the most highly innovative regions, and is deemed a regional pole of excellence. Furthermore, the innovative performance of the Basque Country exceeds the European Union average and that of Spain.

THE BASQUE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION NETWORK (RVCTI)

Created in 1997, it reflects the Basque Country’s huge technological commitment to enhancing the region’s competitive value in terms of production. It is a group of organisations dedicated to research, development and innovation that operate as a network to carry out a balanced variety of R&D&i activities, providing the Basque business sector with specialised and comprehensive technological products and services.

ÁLAVA TECHNOLOGY PARK

Álava Technology Park houses 170 companies and distinguished technological research centres, including: CIC energiGune, the Aeronautical Technology Centre, the Basque Cybersecurity Centre, Neiker, Siemens Engines R&D, the BTI Biotechnology Institute and important Tecnalia Research & Innovation facilities.

RIS3: INTELLIGENT SPECIALISATION

The European Union’s RIS3 initiative for the specialisation of regions has led to the definition of three priorities in the Basque Country: «smart industry», «cleaner energies» and «personalised health», in line with the three transitions proposed by the EU in response to the new global challenges.

 

MOBILITY LAB of Vitoria and Álava

‘Fundación Vitoria-Gasteiz, Araba Mobility Lab Fundazioa’ is a foundation whose strategic aims are as follows: to facilitate the creation of spaces for experimentation associated with the mobility of the future; to be a place for meeting, exchange and alignment between public administration, companies, researchers and teachers; and to build, through collaboration between its agents, a pole of innovation in mobility and logistics that will become a European benchmark in transformative policies.
